Since a few days have gone by there's lots to share but I'm still a little insecure about this bloggin' thing. I sit and write the blog in my head and then think, who is going to want to read all MY ramblings? Then, I remember why I'm blogging. It's really so that my family and friends (especially the ones in Ohio and out of state) can stay in touch with the Weirich homefront.
So, for those of you who see me often and know the day to day, forgive me if you get bored reading my blogs. I'll try to keep it interesting for you all, at the same time updating our family and friends far away from us.
Each Monday I volunteer at our church office doing Data Entry of visitor info and as usual I went and did that. The kids had the day off because of President's Day so I cut my time short so that I could return home to spend the day with them. When I got home around 11:30am I had to pry Ms. Heather (also known around here as our "sleeping beauty") out of bed. She ate her breakfast at lunchtime. (not unusual for her sleeping schedule). After we all had lunch Josh migrated outside for the day. It was an unusually warm day and a great day to shoot hoops, ride his bike and run like crazy with his friends. He did just that.
To get you caught up, Tues I went and tutored my 4 students at Hemby Bridge Elementary. This is a bitter sweet experience for me lately. For those of you who know me well, you know I love children and jump at the chance to help them. In this situation though I get so frustrated by the time I leave at 2pm. One of the children that I tutor is a boy who is 3rd grade like Josh and he barely knows how to add 2 digit numbers and forget doing multiplication tables, he struggles bad with that. So, when I'm working with him I really get a satisfied feeling because I can see how far he's come since the beginning of the school year and I feel sure that the time I give him each week is paying off. Another student that I tutor is a 2nd grade girl...sweet as can be! We do alot of spelling and writing together and she gives me a million hugs in 30 minutes (told you she was sweet) and I also feel certain that I've seen progress in her. But then, there's the two 5th grade boys that I'm tutoring....it's frustrating! I don't know if I'm frustrated at the school system and the kids' parents for allowing these boys to continue to move onto the next grade each year (now they're struggling academically so much) or if I'm upset cause I can't seem to feel like I'm able to help them. The one boy Jonathan has been in Sylvan for a couple of months now and he whizes through the work we do in the 30 minutes but the other boy Nathan literally ZONES out while I'm talking to him. I've learned that sometimes he's adding in his head and then all the sudden he'll whisper the answer but seriously he's not all there! It's just hard! I hate to say that I feel like I'm wasting mine and there time but I really do most Tuesdays. I guess I'm grateful for the other two that I have cause I'm certain I've been able to help them both.
Heather volunteers at Matthews Presby Hospital on Tues and after I dropped her off I was spent! I had to lay my head down for a few.
Dave and I watched another repeat of NCIS and hit the hay!
Today was a little more laid back. Had a "Chris" appt and then spent the afternoon with my good friend Karen. We had a great conversation - one that really got me thinking but it was a good conversation.
Tonight Josh had basketball practice and I've been going each week and doing the devotion with the boys to help David out. The league he plays in SOAR is a Christian league and they supply them with a devotion time each week. It's funny cause by the time the boys come to the table for the devotion they are so wiggly! The team hasn't won one game yet but they are such a positive group. Tonight we reviewed the last 9 weeks of devotion content. (we only have 2 games left) The one boy said - "I remember the one devotion where we learned that we could move a mountain with our mustard seed faith". I couldn't help but giggle....if he got the message that's all that matters to me.
Heather picked up her class ring today. She loves it! She is so happy with it and it looks really pretty on her hand. It's a ring that she'll be able to wear for years.
Only a couple of weeks left until Ms. Heather turns 16!!!! Gosh, already? It really wasn't long ago that she was toddling around my front room and talking my ear off! We're going to Florida with Aunt JuJu and some of her girlfriends over Spring Break and I really look forward to that.
Well, now that I've got you up to date, I'm off to bed!
