It all started on Friday when Josh forgot to bring his lunchbox home in his backpack. You have to know that Josh is a routine creature and he hardly ever looses anything nor does he forget his routine and if you change it, he doesn't adapt well at all. The thing about his lunchbox is, it contains his inhaler that he uses at school. The lunchbox also has a sports watch on it so that an alarm sounds at 11:25a and it signals him to take his inhaler before running on the track outside. Yes, his teacher takes them straight outside to run a lap around the track, immediately after eating their lunch! I have never been able to figure out the benefit in this but he believes it's good for them.
Nevertheless...

On the way to Josh's school we decided that I would walk him in and we would look around in a few spots that he figured he would have left it. ie...by the bathroom in the 3rd - 5th grade bldg or out by the track/playground. As we pulled into a parking spot my cell phone rang - it was Ms. Heather...oh, I'll fill you in on that one in a minute!
I put our spare inhaler in Josh's pocket after we never located his lunchbox so that he would have it for today. I walked him to class and asked his teacher if they could help him backtrack Friday since they know the Friday schedule better then I do and plus I needed to get back home to deliver Heather to her school.
I got back in the car with huge concerns that we wouldn't find the lunchbox and recover the inhaler on my mind.
So, now to fill you in on what Ms. Heather needed when she called me in a panic! Remember I was pulling into a parking spot and I said she called? Well, she was frantic and said "Fred (her hamster) is not in her cage Mom!" She told me that twice in her frantic voice. I had told her that she had to begin to look for her and deal with the situation cause I was at Josh's school and couldn't help until I got home. When I got home, she had her room torn apart like a cyclone had gone through it and had our dog Missi locked in the downstairs bathroom. I let the dog out in hopes of her helping us notice signs of the hamster (Fred) so we would possibly know where to look. Well, in a few short minutes she noticed movement noises in her closet and sure enough, there was Fred in her closet! Thank Goodness!
So, you're probably wondering how the heck the hamster got out...Heather didn't have the ball that is on the top of her cage clipped all the way and the darn hamster (who is awake all night) crawled out and went exploring in Heather's closet.
Our dog, Missi sleeps in Josh's room (normally but for some odd reason), last night Heather wanted Missi in her room and went and got her after we all went to bed. I'm truly thankful that Missi slept through the whole thing cause I don't think I could have handled the hamster funeral this AM.
The best part of the day was when Josh finished his shower tonight and ran like he was IN A PANIC out of the shower to tell Dave and I "the skin is peeling off my toes - the skin is peeling LOOK MOM, LOOK...it is not good -it's not good Mom, it means that I won't have a toe print." Verbatim that is what he said. Dave and I both looked at each other and giggled about it. It was an adorable moment! He insisted that it was a serious situation and we stopped and explained that his toe print is there no matter what. You truly had to be there to see his face and to hear him say it but it was one of those young, innocent moments of a 9 year old.
Well, even my Panera Bread green tea didn't ease my blood pressure issues this AM and I've had a lingering headache all day so I'm heading to bed.
Oh and let me say that I'm still learning how to add photos to my blog so please forgive me when they don't even post in the same size....looks pretty sloppy but I'm still learning.
The search for the missing lunchbox continues tomorrow...
