Today was one of those days when I spent alot of time on my knees. I am wired with the gift of mercy and compassion and I find it very hard to spend time with someone who is hurting and not be driven to my knees for them.
The thing is that this pain that they're experiencing is pain that I've recently experienced so it reopens a wound and makes me reflect. My reflections have encouraged me though and that's good. They have reminded me of the way God has held me and He will hold my friends too.
The other unique thing about this pain is that the cause of it can only be stopped by God. Alot of pain in life is like that but in this case, no matter what my friends try to do it is much bigger then they are - only God can take care of this! This is huge and something like I've never experienced before but I can say that it is pain that has kept me leaning on scripture, prayer and faithful-trusting friends. When I listen to these friends share and I hear their brokenness it makes me feel helpless. I was told long ago, when you feel helpless, run to the HELPER. Those of us who know the Helper know only He can bring peace, clarity, comfort and confidence to keep moving forward and pushing through the pain of the situation.
"For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and EVERY evil thing is there." James 3:16
It's a verse like this that can jump off the page at me and answer so many questions. Like, how can one human being cause this much pain, destruction in so many lives and be allowed to keep doing it!?
Lord, don't allow me to take my eyes off of you! I'm reminded daily to lay it down and look UP! When the cause of this pain is destroyed I'll praise YOU!
Pray without ceasing...
