What's your definition of a perfect day?
Mine can be when no one is sick, everyone got to where they needed to be - ON TIME and I got everything done on my "to do" list and especially when I feel good about how I've taken care of my responsibilities as a Wife and Mother.
Today was one of those days!
For the past four mornings, Miss Heather has needed nothing shy of a fork lift to get out of bed. She's had a consistent, nagging cough with congestion and has been dragging with full stream drama every morning. Well, this morning - FINALLY she got up and was on her way by the time I returned from dropping Josh at school. She had her breakfast eaten before getting into the car and she made it into class with no tardy or fear of one.
I returned home with all good intentions of at least mopping our kitchen floor of which I had attempted several days and remained unsuccessful. I began by emptying the sink of the morning dishes and dropping a load of laundry into the washer. After eating some breakfast I realized that I was finally free to accomplish several things that I had tried to do for about 2 weeks, one was the kitchen floor.
I filled the bucket, got the mop and scrubbed the tile and grout on the kitchen floor to my satisfaction! It truly felt good. It dried and I was very pleased with the end result! Other than the fact that my back is suffering from the satisfaction I got from scrubbing the grout! Gosh, doing a good scrubbing on my kitchen floor sounds so minor in the grand scheme but to me it was huge. I find satisfaction in caring for our home and planning good meals for our family and today I was allowed that opportunity. It truly felt good! Most times I mop, I run the mop over it with soap and rinse and move on. Not today!
Even though I don't work outside of our home with an official paying job, my days and weeks fill up quickly, consistently on a weekly basis. I will look at my daytimer on a Sunday night and think, Gee... I can get so much done this week but before I know it, I get a call and I'm catering for Zaxby's, tuturing 4 students at Hemby Bridge Elementary, volunteering at our church office and oh the inevidable interruptions that come with being a Mother and running errands.
I've found that I place too many expectations on myself in such a short window of time. When it all comes down to it, I really only have about 4-5 hours to get all my "to do's" done before our kids get home from school. When I return from delivering our kids to school it's usually going on 9:00am and I prefer to do my walk/exercise and devotion in the AM so that I don't get cheated from my "alone" time pleasures. Those two things refresh and nurish me in their own ways and are so necessary, in my opinion!
So, even though it rained today, to me it was a perfect day and I'll enjoy my very clean kitchen floor until it's time to do it all over again.

It's time for bed...
