Crowder's Mountain Hike...

Aunt Jude (my sister) has been in town for a visit. She arrived this past Monday and she's staying for a week. Josh soaked up some game time right away on her first night here.

Wednesday after getting my kids to school, I came back home to pick up Jude and we headed for Crowder's Mountain State Park for a 5 mile hike. The weather was perfect! It was cool with a mild breeze and no beaming hot sun! We packed a bag lunch and ate during the hike.

Here are some highlights from the hike...

Yes, there were steps at the beginning of the hike! What were they thinking?
This tree that Jude's standing by amazed me, it was so huge and had such a unique bend to it.

This (above) picture is at the beginning of the hike, up the mountain, little did I know it was the easy part of the hike.
These flowers are called "Mountain Laurel", they were very pretty.
This beetle was dead but it had such cool colors and I couldn't help but get a picture of it for Josh, our animal encyclopedia!
These flowers are from a Rhododendron, (located on the trail right before these monsterous steps pictured below) it was beautiful too!

These steps were right before the Summit.
A lady that we met on the trail told us she counted all these steps and there were 700! Yes, we climbed everyone of them - SLOWLY! Phew, I was out of breath when we reached the breathtaking Summit!
Here we are enjoying the Summit view.
Downtown Charlotte is located behind Jude and I but it's so overcast that you can't see it in the pictures, darn!
I was fascinated by the character of these boulders! I have a walking stick in my one hand but it blends so well with the boulders that you can't see it real easy.
There's Jude wondering around at the Summit and then she stopped to pose for me.
Peace brotha!
The above picture and the next picture are ROCK TOP!
We took this trail "down" the mountain. UNBELIEVABLE is all I can say. We literally navigated or they call it - "Scrambled" through huge boulders that were tricky. At some spots on the trail there was little mercy for losing your concentration and slipping, you were over the edge of the mountain if you did! It was pretty intense and a trail like no other, it was truly a "first" experience for me. I've hiked alot out west in Oregon with Jude but this particular trail was one that I'll never forget. We did a high five when we finished cause it was that intense!
Today, (Thursday) we went to have lunch with Josh at his school. Aunt Jude and Josh were on the climbing wall on the playground together.
The week is turning out to be so memorable and full of fun!
